It all started in 2017
Whitehorse began over the breakfast bar in Paul’s flat in Southampton, with a small whiteboard, some markers and a few magnets.
As a Master Mariner who had always enjoyed teaching, he started by helping a few Cadets prepare properly for their MCA oral exams. The aim was simple: practical, honest support from someone who understood the exam.
A team, not a person
Demand grew quickly, so Paul brought in more experienced Master Unlimited seafarers and started helping with a broader range of Deck tickets. A few years later, our first Chief Engineer Unlimited tutors joined the team.
Today, Whitehorse is a team of over 40 Master Unlimited and Chief Engineer Unlimited tutors, plus other subject-matter specialists.
Making prep more accessible
We moved increasingly online over the years to make high-quality oral exam preparation accessible to more candidates around the world, while keeping the personal, practical approach Whitehorse was built on.
One-to-one tutoring expanded into a comprehensive yet flexible model combining interactive eLearning with small-group clinics and private sessions.

Excellent oral prep, I have recently used Whitehorse for my Master Unlimited and a few years back for Chief Mate. Their new AI podcasts are a great addition for when you are in the car, out for a walk, just stick one on and you are still studying! Highly recommend.
