Flexible training that makes a difference
Practical training for busy yacht crews
Whitehorse is best known for helping yacht officers prepare for oral exams but our support does not stop there. We also provide practical training packages for yachts that want to refresh crew knowledge, strengthen bridge operations and support a safer, more confident onboard culture.
We understand the pressures of the yachting sector from personal experience. That is why our training is designed to fit around the vessel’s programme and the crew’s duties, as well as being realistic and relevant to yacht operations.
Practical, engaging learning that sticks
eLearning training packages
Our interactive eLearning resources can be used as a standalone training solution or as part of a wider package that includes remote sessions or onboard support.
They are invaluable for deepening knowledge in key areas from COLREGs to buoyage and Bridge equipment to safety management. Crew can work through the material at convenient times, test their understanding and refer back to the content whenever they need it.
Our yacht eLearning packages are also often used by yachts to provide structured support for crew who are preparing for modules, oral exams or Yachtmaster.
- Dedicated yacht learning platform with admin access, allowing senior crew or management to oversee access and progress.
- Individual user access for each crew member, including app access for flexible, offline learning.
- Interactive modules, scenarios and self-test questions to help crew check understanding as they go.
- Flexible packages for fleets of any size.
Training delivered where it matters most
Onboard crew training
Our yacht-experienced Master Mariner and Chief Engineer trainers join the yacht for a short, unobtrusive period to deliver practical refresher training built around your vessel’s needs, schedule and operating profile.
Rather than taking everyone away from their duties for long classroom sessions, we fit training around the vessel’s programme, using short, focused sessions that can be repeated for different watches or departments.
This allows us to deliver relevant training in port, alongside normal duties or, ideally, during a short passage, with clear feedback and realistic recommendations the crew can actually use.
- Emergency drills, including MOB, fire, abandon ship, enclosed space and emergency steering.
- Bridge, navigation & BRM reviews & training.
- COLREGs & buoyage training.
- Safety management training at all levels.
- Engine emergency response, procedures and safety training.
- Interior safety & crowd control.
Live training, wherever the vessel is
Remote training
Our remote training sessions give yacht crews access to live, tutor-led refreshers without needing us to come onboard. They work particularly well alongside our eLearning packages, allowing crew to study key topics in their own time and then join focused online sessions to test understanding, discuss scenarios and ask questions.
These sessions are built around the needs of your vessel or crew. They can focus on any subject, from COLREGs and buoyage to safety management and emergency response.
- Live online sessions led by experienced maritime tutors.
- Small-group format to encourage discussion, questions and practical application.
- Useful follow-up to eLearning, giving Captains confidence that crew are engaging properly.
- Flexible delivery for vessels anywhere in the world, with minimal disruption to the programme.
A fresh set of eyes, without the stress of an inspection
Soft auditing
Our experienced Flag State inspectors and ISM lead auditors can provide a practical, friendly review of your vessel’s procedures, routines and safety culture.
This is not a formal inspection and it is not about catching people out. It is a constructive learning exercise designed to help the crew understand what is working well, where improvements can be made and how small changes can reduce operational risk.
- Practical review of onboard procedures, drills and record keeping.
- Friendly, crew-focused discussions that support learning and engagement.
- Clear, realistic recommendations without formal findings or unnecessary pressure.
- Ideal for self-managed vessels or those with in-house management.
