Whether for routine or emergency purposes, the ability to communicate effectively with coast stations and other vessels is vitally important for the safe operation of vessels of all sizes and whether they are on the high seas or in inland waters.
Our GMDSS & Distress module takes you through the principles, components and carriage requirements under the GMDSS system and explains the set-up, operation and maintenance of fixed and portable equipment. It also covers how to send, receive and act upon distress messages and other message types. Each lesson ends with extensive flash card questions, giving you the chance to test yourself as you go and identify any gaps in your understanding.
Regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current guidance and industry practice, the course also includes links to useful external resources, including relevant MCA Marine Notices, IMO Resolutions and other sources of industry best practice. This helps you connect the course content with the source material behind it and gives you confidence that you're studying from up-to-date content.
